Houston mayoral candidate Chris Hollins released the following statement yesterday in response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s proposed Texas land ban SB 147:

“We must take a stand against Governor Abbott and his hateful agenda that seeks to divide and oppress. SB 147 impacts countless individuals who believed in the freedom tendered to U.S. citizens, and abandoned lives abroad to pursue this hope. The right to own property is one of the most fundamental tenets of the American Dream, and heartlessly undermining this principle disregards who we are and what we represent as proud Texans. SB 147 is offensive, especially for our Asian neighbors who encountered a sharp rise in violence due to harmful rhetoric the last few years. This legislation is discriminatory and must be defeated.”
