The Hollins for Mayor campaign received 2,408 individual contributions from nearly 1,700 individual donors
HOUSTON, TX – The numbers are in for the first reporting period of the 2023 Houston mayoral race, and a clear leader has emerged. Chris Hollins reported raising $1.1 million in cash contributions, fueled by more than 2,400 contributions from roughly 1,700 individual donors. More than 1,500 of the contributions to the campaign were $100 or less.
The number of donors, total contributions, and small-dollar contributions to the Hollins campaign each set new records for any reporting cycle in a Houston mayoral race.
“I’m humbled that the grassroots enthusiasm generated by our campaign helped raise more individual contributions than all of our opponents combined,” said Hollins. “Houstonians are embracing our approach and fresh solutions in record numbers, and we look forward to sharing our message with more voters across the city.”
The $1.1 million figure is also a record for amount raised by a non-incumbent this early in an election cycle, though it should be noted that municipal candidates have only been able to raise money this early in a cycle since 2015.
Here’s what community leaders are saying:
Katy Caldwell, businesswoman: “If you want to see how Chris Hollins will run this city, just look at how he is running his campaign: inclusive, innovative, disciplined, and results-oriented.”
Arva Howard, attorney: “A lot of folks wondered if it was possible to get voters excited this early with the election so far off, especially with all that is going on right now. Well, Hollins just showed us that not only is it possible, he is making it happen.”
Pam Gaskin, voting rights activist: “Supporters, volunteers, and donors are getting involved in Chris Hollins’s campaign because they know how important it is to have a leader with a proven track record of getting things done and a vision to move Houston forward.”
Tony Chase, businessman: “The first step to earning the right to lead a world-class city is putting together a first-class campaign. Chris Hollins has passed that test.”
Election Day is November 7, 2023.
